The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires - Review

This book is about a book club comprised of southern white women in the late 1980’s but they are still living and acting like it is the late 1940’s. They start to read thriller and true crime books and realize that the real danger might be in their own backyard. These women get challenged when they have to protect their town from an invisible danger.

3/5 stars ⭐️. I did not know what this book was about before I started reading. This book is problematic, the black characters in this book where the only ones whose lives were truly effected by the threat and their characters were the least developed and the most stereotyped. I would have preferred if there were no black characters in the book because I really enjoyed all of the women involved in the book club I found them extremely entertaining and funny. But Hendrix knows how to write some messed up weird stuff. Reading some of the horror and gore in this book my mouth was on the floor. I am new to this genre and this book does make me want to read more. I don’t recommend this book if you are triggered by gaslighting because that is like the main tool used in this book to keep the thrill going.
